Our Programs & Practices bring the principles of green chemistry into action—through education, implementation, and everyday laboratory decision-making. Together, these efforts support a safer, more sustainable, and forward-thinking laboratory culture.
🌱 Green Chemistry Awareness Day
Green Chemistry Awareness Day will be an annual initiative dedicated to promoting sustainable practices in chemistry and raising awareness about the role of science in protecting human health and the environment. Hosted as part of our Programs, this event brings together students, faculty, and community partners to explore innovative approaches that reduce chemical hazards, minimize waste, and support a more sustainable future.
March 29–April 2, 2027
Green Chemistry Week 2027 is a week-long initiative organized by the Green Chemistry Initiative (GCI) at Georgia State University to promote green chemistry awareness, sustainable practices, and creative solutions for a safer, healthier, and more sustainable future.
Open to students from all disciplines, the week will feature educational activities, student competitions, and opportunities to share ideas and explore how small changes can make a big impact.
Get involved. Share your ideas. Help build a greener future.
Explore planned activities, student competitions, and opportunities to participate on the Green Chemistry Week 2027 webpage.
The Green Chemistry Initiative’s education programs prepare learners to apply the principles of green chemistry in research, industry, education, and community engagement. Through innovative curricula, interdisciplinary collaboration, and experiential learning opportunities, we aim to advance sustainability and environmental responsibility across scientific disciplines.
Green Lab Practices represent the day-to-day actions that make laboratories safer and more sustainable. From minimizing chemical waste to selecting less hazardous materials, these practices translate the principles of green chemistry into routine decision-making. This section provides guidance, examples, and practical strategies that support continuous improvement in laboratory sustainability.
🌱 Green Chemistry Awareness Club
The Green Chemistry Awareness Club is a student-led initiative dedicated to promoting awareness and engagement in sustainable and responsible laboratory practices. The club provides a platform for students to explore green chemistry principles, share ideas, and participate in activities that encourage safer and more environmentally conscious science.
Green lab practices provide a collaborative space for faculty, staff, and students to share, discuss, and refine practical approaches to implementing green chemistry in teaching, research, laboratory practice, and daily life. These practices bring together the academic community to advance safer and more sustainable approaches across education, research laboratories, and everyday living.
