The Green Chemistry Awareness Club (GCAC), established in January 2026 at Georgia State University through the Panther Involvement Network, serves as the student engagement arm of the Green Chemistry Initiative. Founded and advised by Dr. Jianmei Cui alongside a dedicated team of student leaders and founding members, the club was created in response to research findings showing that approximately 94% of surveyed students had never heard of the 12 Principles of Green Chemistry. Through outreach, education, and collaboration, GCAC works to bridge this gap by connecting students with the mission, resources, and opportunities of the Green Chemistry Initiative.
The founding leadership team includes President Hayley Rivas and Vice President Alonso Garay Lujan, along with founding members Jissel Cabrera-Franco, Natalie Puha, Jade Tulloch, and Ismael Elbarodi. Together, they share a commitment to promoting sustainability and advancing awareness of green chemistry principles within the university community.

The mission of the Green Chemistry Awareness Club is to educate, engage, and empower students to adopt environmentally responsible practices in chemistry and everyday life. The club organizes workshops, seminars, outreach events, and collaborative activities that highlight safer chemical practices, waste reduction, and sustainable innovation.
Through student-led initiatives and partnerships with faculty and campus organizations, the club serves as a platform for leadership development and community engagement. It also plays an important role in supporting the broader Green Chemistry Initiatives at Georgia State University by fostering a culture of sustainability among the next generation of scientists.
